The Veterinarian works under the general supervision of the Medical Director to support the mission of the Kalamazoo Humane Society in the excellent medical care and treatment of animals and promotion of One Welfare in the community. A Kalamazoo Humane Society veterinarian will:
Provide medical and surgical veterinary care according to current standards of veterinary practice in the United States, including fear-free patient handling; patient examination, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, anesthesia, surgery, and euthanasia; and interpretation of laboratory and diagnostic imaging results.
Provide follow-up support as needed for patients with chronic conditions, medical or surgical complications, or convalescent periods.
Collaborate with and support veterinarians and veterinary support staff in the care of patients.
Maintain detailed, accurate, and legally compliant patient medical records.
Provide input as requested by the Medical Director for developing and implementing clinic protocols and staff training.
CLIENT (PET CARETAKER) EDUCATION AND SUPPORT
Provide consultation for pet caretakers regarding veterinary care, nutrition, husbandry, and behavior with a view to animal and human health, welfare, and safety, and according to current veterinary practice standards.
Communicate with pet caretakers and public members to reflect the culture of compassion and respect at KHS.
Participate in community outreach events for the promotion of animal health
DVM/VMD or equivalent from an accredited university.
Valid veterinary license in the State of Michigan.
Valid Controlled Substance license in the State of Michigan and federal Drug Enforcement Agency.
