About the Practice:
With 146 years of valued service to the equine industry of Central Kentucky, Hagyard Equine Medical Institute is looking to grow its Sport Horse medicine team within its Performance Horse Department. The ideal candidate will be eager to support our existing team of veterinarians in providing outstanding service to our competition horse clientele, as well as build new clientele within the well-established practice.
About the Job:
Work includes providing full-service primary care, emergency care, and specialty lameness services for clientele on farms, at the clinic, and at horse shows. Some horse show coverage is required and currently includes show series at the Kentucky Horse Park and The World Equestrian Center in Wilmington, Ohio.
Veterinarian will have access to portable and referrable advanced diagnostic equipment including digital radiography, digital ultrasonography, upper airway endoscopy, gastroscopy, nuclear scintigraphy, MRI, and PET scans. Advanced therapeutic modalities include: extracorporeal shockwave, class IV laser, IRAP processing, PRP, Pro-stride, and Alpha2EQ.
Located in the “Horse Capital of the World”, Central Kentucky boasts a high density of thoroughbred breeding farms and a growing population of sport horse farms and venues; to include three-day eventing, hunters, jumpers, dressage, competitive driving, western performance, and saddleseat.
Central Kentucky offers plenty of retail, dining, distillery/brewery, and outdoor activities appealing to a variety of interests.
Base salary commesurate on experience, with additional production based compensation of up to 30% available

Skills/Responsibilities Required:
The primary role and duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Provide routine primary care and specialty performance/lameness care on a day-to-day and emergency basis for existing, new, and shared clientele with performance horses of multiple disciplines utilized for basic pleasure riding or competition at the local, national, and/or international level.
Provide on-site and on-call coverage for contracted horse shows.
Common examinations performed include, but are not limited to:
General health/wellness examination
Vaccination appointments
General emergencies
Dermatologic examination
Respiratory examination
Neurologic examination
Musculoskeletal/performance examination
Lameness examination
Pre-purchase/pre-lease examination
Radiograph review
Common procedures performed include, but are not limited to:
Nasogastric intubation
Catheter placement
Fluid administration
Minor surgical procedures
Digital radiography
Ultrasound
Upper airway endoscopy
Diagnostic nerve/joint blocks
Joint injections
Ultrasound guided intralesional injection
Maintain accurate patient charts, document observations, and properly interpret veterinary instructions.
Other projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements:
Doctorate of veterinary medicine degree and veterinary license and accreditation to practice in the state of Kentucky is required.
Evening and weekend shift availability, including on-call rotation
Minimum 1-2 years experience as a veterinarian with exposure/expertise related to sport horse medicine.
Positive attitude with a specific interest in sport horse medicine and willingness to work as a part of a growing team within a well-established practice.
Communicate effectively with colleagues and ensure all matters related to shared clientele are communicated quickly and efficiently.
Ability to withstand all physical requirements and environmental elements.
